The
Knights once again hosted the parish Altar Servers at
an annual Altar Servers Outing on Sunday, March 14, 2010.
We
decided to try the event on a Sunday afternoon this year
by way of something a little different.
As
in the past, the event involved a number of Brother Knights
assisting in the preparation of the pre-game meal of hot
dogs, chips and pop - all generously donated by
the management and staff of the Deer Pointe Sobeys.
Sobey's
has been a consistent supporter of this event for several
years and we would like to thank them for this much appreciated
support.
The
parish Altar Server Coordinator, Tim Flaherty,
worked hard at lining up the children for this event.
While we did not get quite the turnout we had hoped for,
the children that did attend were treated to a good meal,
and a tremendous hockey game. It was the last game of
the regular season for the Calgary Hitmen, and they did
not disappoint the fans, beating the Red Deer Rebels by
a convincing 8 - 1 score.
Once
again the Parish provided a small cash gift to each Altar
Server in attendance, and it took no time at all before
the children were spending the cash on a variety of eats
and treats from the Saddledome concessions.
A
special thanks goes out to Father Angelo
who spent some time with the children during the luncheon,
and then personally presented the Parish gifts to each
child.
I
would like to thank all the Brother Knights who assisted
in the meal preparation and driving duties, as well as
some other Knights who offered their services but the
numbers did not require us to call upon them.
Thanks
to all for your willing support.
Bro.
Bud Conroy.
