Memorial
for the Unborn
Fundraising Event
Saturday,
Nov. 21 & Sunday, Nov. 22
It
was a real privilege to be associated with the many functions
involved in staging the very successful Holy Inspiration
Art Show on the weekend of November 21/22.
Joanne
Stiles, the manager, has done this many times, so we were
in good hands. Now, it was a fair bit of work getting
the pieces out of the van, into the Church and put on
display. It was a real exercise in eye-hand coordination
to fill out the transaction slips properly. It was very
stressful answering questions and generally trying to
keep calm during the hectic rushes after the Masses. And,
to be honest, it was a relief to help Joanne put the few
remaining unsold pieces back into the van at the end of
the sale. However, I can’t remember an event I enjoyed
more.
The
art works themselves were truly inspirational. I met many
people who commented on the high quality of the displayed
pieces. I was entranced by the beauty and Catholicity
of the art. Not only that, as I glanced at the volunteers
who generously gave their time and energy to help make
the enterprise such a success, I was so proud of them
and of our Council for taking on the Memorial for the
Unborn project and supporting the fundraiser. We raised
approximately $2,300 toward the cause, a truly remarkable
sum.
Thanks
to all the volunteers, Brother Knights and family members,
who helped: Mike Mallon, Mike Kelly, Stephen Doyle, Greg
Fisher, Paul Schulz, Ryan Desrosiers, John & Susan
Kretz, Chic Paolini, Phil & Sonia Wadsworth, Syd Howlett,
Mike Etienne, Chris Yeo, Choc Quinn, Nicole Quinn, Pat
Leyne and Virginia Martin.
In
addition, the caring and helpful attitude displayed by
Joanne and her daughter Michelle went a long way in making
the event such a pleasure to be volunteering at. Joanne
was unflappable.
